Hello,
I would like to ask you people that have more experience with centrifugal compressors which type of compressor is better solution for application where the air demand is between 280 and 360 m3/min at 7,5 bar and there is no requirement for the air to be oil free? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the both types compressors?

Hi, I would recommend the Ingersoll-Rand compressor of the TA series, the TANX8000 model - this will be the most optimal solution for efficiency, cost and reliability. Of course, the availability of service and the supply of spare parts are also important, and Ingersoll-Rand is guaranteed to offer this anywhere in the world. If you are talking about Bulgaria, then I will say that there are many centrifugal compressors of the TA series.

Have a nice day!

Hello,
thank you for your comment. Are the TA series centrifugal compressors more effective than the oil injected? Do you know what is the specific consumed power of the TA? What is the price level of the centrifugal compressor compared to the oil injected screw compressors?

Thank you

Hello.
You are comparing two incomparable things - you will hardly find a screw compressor (oil-injected or oil-free) with this performance: 280 and 360 m3/min at 7,5 bar. You will need to supply from 5 to 7 screw compressors in order to achieve this performance. Now calculate the cost of maintenance. Ingersoll Rand is a good choice of centrifugal compressors and change the oil only after three years or 24000 hours.

Thank you very much for your comment.

When you have 360 m3/min air demand usually you also require high reliability from your compressor installation. So in this case I believe it would be wise to install several machines even if you use centrifugal compressors, because no matter how reliable a machine is, it always can stop. So if the demand is 360 m3/min, then I think it would be wise to install several centrifugal compressors with one of them as a backup machine. So if we use centrifugal compressors, then it would be 2, 3 or 4 machines, if it is screw compressors it would be 6, 7 or 8 machines.

Also when you choose what type of compressor to install you should take into consideration the total cost of ownership, which includes the initial investment, the energy expenses, maintenance expenses, etc.

So my question to the people that have more experience with centrifugal compressors is what are the advantages or disadvantages of the centrifugal compressors vs the screw oil injected compressors. Apart of the maintenance expenses are the centrifugal compressors more efficient, which would lead to lower energy costs? What is the initial investment? Are they more expensive compared to the screw compressors?

Thank you

Dear Sir,
In this case, it is better to make a choice in accordance with the production process. As you can see, a centrifugal compressor with dynamic compression and oil-free air, as well as a screw with volume compression. A specific technical task is required, which will describe in detail the amount of air required, peak consumption modes, the possibility of using water cooling and many other factors ... A centrifugal compressor can work without stopping for up to 2 years, a screw compressor requires a maintenance every 2-4 thousand hours . And of course the centrifugal compressor has the best energy efficiency indicators.
If you need 280-360 m3 / min, then you need 1 or 2 centrifugal compressors, as a screw at least 6 pieces + reserve. The advantages here are obvious: power consumption, service and spare parts costs, life, reliability.

Right! Centrifugal compressors are better than screw ones.
